Anthropic and Iceland’s Ministry of Education launched a national AI education pilot in November 2025, providing approximately 300 teachers (5-7% of all primary and secondary teachers) across all regions of Iceland with access to Claude for lesson preparation. The six-month pilot runs from October 2025 to April 2026 with dedicated support and educational resources.

Who it affects: 300 teachers across all regions of Iceland; the pilot covers primary and secondary education.

What is notably missing: The pilot is small in scale (300 of approximately 5,000-6,000 teachers) and time-limited to six months. No binding mandate for AI tool use or literacy training for the full teaching workforce is established. Outcomes and post-pilot continuation plans are not confirmed.
