On 3 February 2026, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara and Microsoft Philippines announced an expanded partnership to accelerate learning recovery and AI literacy across the Philippine basic education system. Under the collaboration, Microsoft will provide AI tools and teacher training modules to support in-service professional development. Capacity-building resources include Microsoft Copilot integration for lesson planning, student feedback automation, and administrative efficiency.
The partnership builds on DepEd’s Project AGAP.AI and DO 003 s. 2026, providing a technology delivery mechanism for the AI literacy rollout targeting up to 1.5 million participants (1.05 million learners, 300,000 teachers, 150,000 parents). The training is funded through the ASEAN Foundation and Google.org grants. Separately, DepEd is working with MIT RAISE and Day of AI to embed AI concepts into the basic education curriculum.
This partnership reinforces dimension 4 (teacher training delivered and funded before broad rollout) and dimension 13 (publicly accessible AI literacy resources). While training is externally funded through donors rather than the Philippine national budget, the DepEd institutional mandate gives the programme governmental reach and accountability structures distinct from purely private initiatives.
