AWS and not-for-profit EdTech provider Code for Schools are launching Australia’s first locally developed AI literacy programme targeting one million students over three years. Nationwide rollout is scheduled for Term 1 2026 via a national Learning Management System. The programme will be co-designed with educators, students, and industry experts, with a pilot conducted across select schools in 2025.

The curriculum covers ethical foundations (safe, responsible use), practical skills (hands-on tools), industry insights (sectoral case studies), and critical thinking (real-world problem-solving). Content is age-appropriate, curriculum-aligned across public, independent, and Catholic schools, with tailored resources for students, teachers, and parents.

Who it affects: Students across public, independent, and Catholic schools nationwide; teachers and families with access to resources; schools participate on voluntary basis.

What is notably missing: Mandate and enforcement mechanism (opt-in structure); explicit teacher training requirements before rollout; digital infrastructure funding for under-resourced schools; sustainability model beyond 2026 rollout phase.
