INTEF launched 17 online teacher training courses for spring 2026, offering 6,550 total places for teachers across Spain. Courses run for the first semester of 2026 and are designed to support pedagogical development, foster creativity, and introduce AI tools and applications in educational contexts.

Two courses directly address AI and learning design: “Thinking, Creating and Innovating: Key to Learning in Times of AI” (40 hours) and “Design Your Learning Situations with Artificial Intelligence” (40 hours each, offered separately for Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education). These courses are taught by INTEF-accredited instructors and include both technical knowledge and pedagogical application.

Additional courses in the 2026 cohort address bullying prevention and creative use of technology. Registration ran from January 16 to February 4, 2026, and has closed. These courses are available to all Spanish teachers, including those in Comunidad de Madrid public and private schools.

Who it affects: In-service teachers in Spain, particularly those seeking professional development in AI pedagogies. Completion certificates are issued and may support career advancement, though completion is not mandatory.

What is notably missing: Participation is voluntary and limited to teachers who register during open enrollment periods. There is no system-wide mandate requiring all teachers to complete AI training. The 40-hour courses provide introduction and skill-building but do not constitute comprehensive AI literacy or ethics education for the teaching workforce. No information is provided on how these courses are funded, whether they are free, or whether there are incentives for completion beyond professional development credit. Teachers teaching students who will encounter AI systems in their daily lives have no requirement to complete training on the ethical, social, or critical dimensions of AI.
