Czechia’s updated National AI Strategy 2030 (NAIS 2030), approved by the government in July 2024, includes a commitment to embed digital skills — including AI literacy and cybersecurity — into primary education as part of a curriculum reform. Schools are permitted to voluntarily introduce revised 1st and 6th grade standards, which include AI literacy and problem-solving components, from 2026. The changes become compulsory for all schools in the 2027–28 academic year. The Ministry of Industry and Trade leads NAIS 2030, which co-ordinates implementation with the Ministry of Education and aligns with EU AI Act requirements and the Digital Czechia initiative.
Who it affects: Primary school students in all Czech schools from 2027–28, and their teachers, who will need to deliver new content. Students and schools choosing voluntary early adoption from 2026 are already affected. Czechia participates in the EU-supported AI-ENTR4YOUTH programme, which reaches upper secondary students with applied AI projects.
What is notably missing: Teacher training for the new curriculum content is not currently mandated or separately funded before the 2027 rollout. There is no specific ethics curriculum component defined in the announced reforms. Funding for school-level implementation has not been publicly specified. Until 2027–28, AI literacy instruction remains voluntary for all primary schools.
