DigiLearn Bahamas is a government-backed initiative providing free digital skills training, including AI courses, to Bahamian citizens. The programme is financed through a US$2.4 million Inter-American Development Bank loan and delivered through a partnership involving the Ministry of Education, University of The Bahamas, and technical institutes. The Upskill Bahamas component provides free access to AI, digital marketing, and business finance certifications. The Grand Bahama Port Authority’s Tech Edge 2.0 programme offers paid remote internships in cybersecurity, AI, and data science, with nearly 200 participants enrolled as of 2025.

Who it affects: All Bahamian citizens can access DigiLearn at no individual cost. Working-age adults seeking reskilling and young people seeking entry into technology careers are the primary target groups. The government’s explicit goal is to reduce barriers to AI and digital skills for workforce development.

What is notably missing: DigiLearn is a voluntary access programme: no obligation exists for workers or employers to participate. There is no employer mandate to provide AI training, no civil servant training standard, and no AI literacy curriculum in schools linked to the DigiLearn framework. The Bahamas has no dedicated AI governance body and no AI-specific legislation. The programme addresses skills access but does not create enforceable training rights.
