Djibouti’s General Inspectorate of National Education (IGEN) launched a training programme on “AI applied to education” in October 2025, running through January 2026. The programme was delivered in partnership with the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) and the University of Djibouti. Education inspectors, who oversee teaching quality across national schools, received training on ethical, pedagogical, and professional dimensions of AI use in educational contexts.

Who it affects: Education inspectors across the national school system are the direct beneficiaries. As supervisory officials, their training in AI ethics and pedagogy will influence how AI use is assessed in classroom settings across Djibouti’s public schools.

What is notably missing: The training targeted inspectors, not classroom teachers or students. No curriculum mandate requires schools to teach AI literacy. The programme is a time-limited professional development initiative rather than a standing statutory obligation. No minimum training standard for civil servants working with AI has been defined in law. The programme does not create enforceable obligations for the public sector. No equivalent initiative for non-inspector civil servants, workers, or the general public has been identified.
