Florida’s K-12 AI Task Force is developing AI literacy guidance for students and educators across the state. In 2025, Florida was selected as one of the EDSAFE AI Alliance Policy Lab states, a programme that supports states in developing clear, responsible AI policies for K-12 education. The Task Force’s work focuses on age-appropriate AI literacy, understanding of AI concepts, safety, and ethics.
At the legislative level, Senate Bill 146 (2026 session) requires the Florida Digital Service to conduct a study on how state agencies use AI. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis separately proposed a Citizens Bill of Rights for Artificial Intelligence in December 2025, outlining resident rights regarding AI use including transparency, parental supervision of minors’ AI use, and data collection protections. SB 482, filed by Senator Tom Leek, would enact these protections into statute.
Who it affects: K-12 students and educators in Florida public schools. The AI Bill of Rights proposals would extend to all Florida residents interacting with AI systems.
What is notably missing: No legislation has been enacted binding schools to deliver AI literacy instruction or curriculum as of April 2026. The Task Force work and SB 146 remain guidance and study frameworks, not mandates. No teacher training obligation or funding mechanism is attached.
