The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has published an AI Integration Framework for K–12 schools, with short-term implementation guidance covering an 18–20 month horizon and a longer-term strategy running through 2030.

The framework outlines how schools can incorporate AI into teaching, learning, and administration. It addresses curriculum design, responsible use policies, and educator support. The MDE also operates a Data Science and AI Hub aimed at developing an AI-ready workforce pipeline from high school data science programmes to domain-specific professional training.

The framework is voluntary guidance for school districts, not a binding legislative mandate. Individual districts determine their own implementation pace and depth. There is no legislated requirement for AI literacy hours, mandated teacher training, or dedicated state funding attached to the framework.

Minnesota has not enacted a state AI curriculum law. The framework positions Minnesota as developing the policy infrastructure for future mandated AI education but has not yet crossed that threshold.

Score note: dimension 1 scores 1 (AI literacy curriculum guidance exists at state level, voluntary). Dimension 2 remains 0 (not binding law or mandate).
