The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Education runs the KI-Zentrum Schule (AI Centre for Schools) within the Centre for School Quality and Teacher Education (ZSL), and integrates the AI chatbot “telli” into the SCHULE@BW platform from October 2025, available to schools through at least mid-2026. ZSL’s state subject team for AI runs an annual teacher training programme and a yearly AI conference. The state also provides the SESAM media library with structured AI learning ideas from grade 5 onward, plus annual innovation budget lines for AI in schools. AI is listed among the innovation elements of the state’s education reform.
Who it affects: Teachers and pupils in Baden-Württemberg state schools with access to telli through SCHULE@BW; teachers attending ZSL training events.
What is notably missing: No binding statewide AI curriculum mandate, no statutory requirement that teacher training be completed before classroom AI use, and no published funding ringfence specific to AI literacy. Provision is voluntary and platform-based rather than examined.
