The Saxon Ministry of Culture (SMK) has rolled out KAI, a data-protection-compliant generative AI assistant for teachers, available to all teachers in Sachsen since the start of the 2025/26 school year for lesson preparation, delivery and follow-up. The ministry confirmed it plans to introduce the federally coordinated “telli” chatbot interface in Sachsen in 2026. Since 2023 the state has run a comprehensive information offering at mesax.de/ki covering legal questions, guidance and examples for AI in school practice.
Who it affects: All Saxon state-school teachers (KAI access from 2025/26), with telli set to extend access to pupils via the planned 2026 rollout.
What is notably missing: No binding curriculum mandate for AI literacy at the Sachsen state level, no statutory funding figure attached, and the assistants are made available rather than embedded in a required course of study.
