The Secretaría de Educación del Estado de México, in coordination with the federal Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP), has incorporated artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, cybersecurity, logistics and sustainable development as disciplines in the curriculum of newly built state preparatory schools. Six new preparatorias were completed in 2025 and inaugurated in early 2026, with three further preparatorias in La Paz, Chicoloapan and Valle de Chalco, plus five cyberbachilleratos, projected for 2026. The curriculum tailors options to municipal productive vocations and adds AI-related subjects to the upper-secondary track within the state system. The change is an Estado de México operational decision applied to newly opened state preparatorias rather than a binding curriculum mandate for all schools in the state. No dedicated AI-ethics module has been disclosed in the published curriculum content, and teacher-training provisions specific to the new AI strand have not been separately detailed.
