Iowa’s Department of Education announced a $3 million state investment to provide all Iowa elementary schools (public and non-public) with an AI-powered reading tutor tool. The tool uses voice recognition to assist students as they read aloud, providing real-time feedback. Rollout began in summer 2025. This represents a publicly funded AI education tool deployed statewide to all elementary students, supporting access dimension 13. Iowa has no statewide AI literacy curriculum policy or binding AI education legislation; individual districts manage their own AI policies.

Scoring note: Dimension 13 scores 1 — a publicly funded AI tool is available to all elementary students statewide, meeting the threshold for free/publicly funded AI resources for the general (student) population. No AI literacy curriculum mandate exists (dim 1 = 0).
