A month-long campaign titled “Hour of AI in Bangladesh-2026” was launched on 26 April 2026 in all secondary schools across the country, running until 26 May 2026. The initiative is designed to equip students with coding and programming skills and contribute to building a knowledge-based, innovative Bangladesh. Students from grades six to nine in all secondary schools were eligible to participate.
The campaign is conducted under the initiative of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), with support from the global organisation Code.org and technical assistance from Aspire to Innovate (a2i), a government innovation programme. Regional Deputy Directors, District Education Officers and Upazila/Thana Secondary Education Officers under DSHE were assigned responsibilities for coordination through online meetings and field-level supervision.
While the campaign is a significant public outreach effort, it is a time-limited national awareness exercise rather than a permanent curriculum integration. It does not establish binding AI literacy standards, but is delivered at national scale under government authority, representing a meaningful though voluntary step toward broadening AI education exposure in Bangladeshi secondary schools.
