University AI Microcredential Program with Federal Grant Support

Louisiana universities have developed a free, self-paced artificial intelligence microcredential program designed to provide foundational AI literacy to students. The program focuses on practical competencies including responsible AI use, data privacy, and ethical considerations in AI deployment.

Additionally, the University of Louisiana system secured $1.4 million in federal grants for the AI-Enhanced Teacher Preparation Pipeline. This initiative embeds AI literacy, computer science, and custom generative AI tools throughout early childhood and elementary teacher preparation programs, directly addressing the need for educators equipped to teach AI concepts to younger students.

These programs represent investments in both educator preparation and public access to AI literacy resources, creating pathways for teachers to develop expertise and for students to gain foundational knowledge in AI without cost barriers.

Scoring note: Dimension 13 (free/publicly funded AI literacy resources) scores 1 for the free university microcredential. Dimension 4 (teacher training mandated and funded) may score 1 as the $1.4M teacher preparation grant demonstrates funded teacher training, though it targets future educators rather than in-service teachers.
