Wyoming Department of Education issues guidance framework for district AI policies

The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) released guidance for district-level AI policy development, developed with the Digital Learning Plan Advisory Panel and seven stakeholder groups. The guidance encourages districts to embrace AI in classrooms and teach ethical, responsible use, providing a continuum of AI usage categories (AI-free, AI-assisted, AI-enhanced, AI-empowered). Local school districts are responsible for creating their own AI policies under state guidance — there is no statewide binding mandate. WDE also offers ongoing professional development opportunities for educators on AI basics and policy development. No AI education legislation was introduced or passed in Wyoming as of April 2026.
