On 25 June 2025, Bremen became the first German federal state to introduce the telli AI chatbot at all public schools, giving every teacher and student free, data-protection-compliant access to AI. Students interact with telli using pseudonyms; the platform runs entirely on EU-based servers with no third-party data sharing or model training from usage data. The Senator for Children and Education oversees the implementation and provides guidance through the state’s dedicated AI-in-schools web pages. The programme is publicly funded. No binding state-level AI literacy curriculum requirement accompanies the tool rollout.
