From April 2, 2026, the telli AI chatbot is available at no cost to all teachers and students in all Thüringen schools via the Thuringian School Portal. Thüringen’s Education Minister described the rollout as “a historic step.” Teachers can use individually configurable AI assistants for lesson preparation and material creation; students access AI in a protected, pseudonymised framework with language models running exclusively on EU-based servers. A new sharing function allows templates and learning scenarios to be shared across schools and states. The tool is publicly funded and data-protection compliant (GDPR), providing universal free access to AI tools for learning without constituting a binding AI literacy curriculum mandate.
