The Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) launched the “AI Literacy for Everyone” platform in October 2025, backed by $9 million in federal Government of Canada funding. The platform is designed to make foundational AI knowledge accessible to all Canadians regardless of technical background, addressing the AI skills gap identified across the economy.

Platform content: The platform includes four foundational courses covering machine learning and responsible AI, totalling over 12 hours of structured on-demand learning. Subscribers gain access to 100+ new modules released annually across four areas: AI News and Trends, AI Tools and Resources, AI Strategy for Leaders, and Real-World AI Applications. Modules range from 15-minute primers to in-depth two-hour sessions.

Scale: Amii has trained over 250,000 learners and maintains a 4.7/5 star rating from more than 11,000 learners on platforms including Coursera. The platform is part of Amii’s ambition to build a 40-institution consortium of post-secondary partners delivering foundational AI literacy to Canadian graduates.

2026 expansion: In 2026, Amii introduced AI for Earth Scholarships, awarding 750 scholarships to Canadian post-secondary students in environmental sciences and meteorology, providing free access to specialised AI literacy training.

What is notably missing: The platform is delivered by a federally funded non-profit rather than mandated by government legislation. There is no legal requirement for Canadian employers or workers to use the platform. Participation is entirely voluntary and access outside Alberta may vary.
