Gyeonggi Province has significantly expanded its “AI Digital Learning Center” project, recruiting approximately 250 instructors to operate programs across hub centers, experience zones, and outreach centers throughout the province starting in May 2026. The program is explicitly designed to help all residents of the province “easily and safely utilise artificial intelligence and digital technologies,” offering basic AI and digital education, experiential learning, and counselling. Selected instructors receive training before deployment.

Separately, the Gyeonggi Economic Agency and Sungkyunkwan University were selected in March 2026 as an AI joint training center, securing 1.8 billion won in government funding to train over 825 AI professionals annually for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the province.

The AI Digital Learning Center initiative is a publicly funded provincial program available to the general population without entry requirements. It does not constitute a binding curriculum mandate for schools and operates as an adult-learning and community outreach model rather than a statutory K-12 requirement.

Who it affects: All residents of Gyeonggi Province; SME workers through the joint training center.

What is notably missing: No binding school curriculum mandate accompanies the program; AI education in schools remains governed by national policy rather than province-specific legislation.
