Uzbekistan — New Uzbekistan University Begins Nationwide AI Teacher Cascade Training in 2026

New Uzbekistan University (NewUU) is executing the cascade training model at the core of the Five Million AI Leaders presidential programme. In the current 2026 cycle, 100 computer science teachers per region are undergoing intensive AI curriculum training at NewUU using a curriculum developed in collaboration with MIT. The explicit target is to train all 19,500 computer science teachers nationwide through this cascade model, with trained teachers then delivering AI literacy instruction in their own schools.

The programme represents active implementation, not merely a plan — the first cohorts are in training, and the infrastructure at NewUU (including the Nvidia supercomputer cluster) is operational. The curriculum covers practical AI applications, machine learning concepts, and the integration of AI tools into classroom instruction.

Who it affects: All 19,500 computer science teachers in Uzbekistan’s school system are the eventual target. Students in schools where trained teachers teach will receive AI literacy instruction aligned with the national programme. The cascade model is designed to reach national scale within the five-year programme window ending in 2030.

What is notably missing: Training is currently in early rollout phase — not all 19,500 teachers have been trained. The cascade model depends on quality of knowledge transfer from centrally-trained teachers to their colleagues and students. No minimum AI literacy standard for students has been published, and no formal assessment mechanism exists to verify that the curriculum is being delivered consistently across all regions.
