The Generalitat Valenciana’s Department of Education has established the first dedicated CEFIRE (Centre for Teacher Training, Innovation and Educational Resources) specialising in Artificial Intelligence and Computational Thinking in all of Spain. Based in La Nucia, Alicante, this new centre is the first in the country to focus exclusively on AI and computational thinking in education.

The CEFIRE’s remit includes developing and delivering annual training plans for teachers covering AI, computational thinking, programming, and robotics; advising schools on AI project planning; producing digital teaching materials and spreading good practice; and building collaborative networks between teachers, schools, universities, and technology entities. A priority emphasis is placed on digital inclusion and territorial equity, with rural zones receiving preferential support.

The centre is also a key component of the Generalitat’s ESCOLA 4.0 programme, which aims to extend digital learning progressively across all educational stages. The 2025-2026 academic year plan (issued May 2025) already designated computational thinking, programming, robotics, and AI as a priority training line for teachers across the region. This institutionalisation of AI teacher training — in a dedicated, funded centre — is a significant step beyond Valencia’s previous voluntary or project-based approach.
