North Macedonia launches Vezilka: first National Centre for Artificial Intelligence

North Macedonia officially launched Vezilka, its first National Centre for Artificial Intelligence, in October 2025. Valued at approximately €6 million and supported by the European Union through Horizon Europe and EuroHPC, the centre operates as a training and development hub offering educational programmes, skills development, and AI research. It connects to the European AI Factories network and the PHAROS AI Factory infrastructure.

Who it affects: Researchers, AI developers, students, and companies seeking AI training and computing resources in North Macedonia.

What is notably missing: Vezilka is a competence centre for specialists rather than a general AI literacy provider. No binding curriculum or workforce training obligation is established. The centre is advisory and research-focused rather than a regulatory body with enforcement powers.
