Ghana’s government announced in March 2026 that it is developing a new Data Protection Bill specifically designed to regulate AI systems, automated decision-making, and cross-border data transfers. The bill addresses the regulatory gap left by the existing Data Protection Act, which predates modern AI systems. A separate Emerging Technologies Bill covering AI, blockchain, and digital assets is also under development. Neither bill has been tabled in Parliament yet.
