Hawaii state legislation (SB 2212) requires all juniors and seniors to complete a six-week AI literacy course beginning in the 2027-28 school year. The curriculum covers machine learning, generative AI, ethics, and culturally responsive content tied to state history. This would make Hawaii one of the first US states to create a binding statewide AI literacy graduation requirement, moving beyond the voluntary guidance that most states have issued to date.
