Maryland’s AI Ready Schools Act (HB1057), effective June 1 2026, requires the State Department of Education to issue AI guidance and mandates every local school system to adopt AI policies and promote AI literacy. The Act establishes a statewide AI Education Collaborative, designates AI coordinators in each county board of education, and integrates AI into workforce development standards. The General Fund expenditure increases by $1.05 million in FY 2027, making this one of the first state mandates with dedicated funding attached to an AI literacy requirement.
