Wales provides free AI and digital training to adults through two government-funded schemes: Personal Learning Account (PLA) Core and PLA Digital.

PLA Core is open to those aged 19+ living in Wales who are employed or unpaid full-time carers earning £34,303 per year or less. PLA Digital extends access to support Wales residents in gaining technical skills regardless of income level, offering fully-funded courses in digital, IT, and technical fields including AI.

Additionally, the Welsh Government has allocated £1.4 million over 3 years through the Curriculum for Wales Grant Programme to support understanding of computing and digital skills in schools.

Who it affects: Working-age adults in Wales; carers; school pupils (through grant programme); workforce across all sectors.

What is notably missing: Current enrolment numbers and completion rates; specification of AI-specific course content; clarity on recognition of PLA qualifications; timeline for expansion beyond current income thresholds.
