Louisiana Innovation (LA.IO) Division Established for State AI Strategy

Louisiana Economic Development established Louisiana Innovation (LA.IO), a new division within LED dedicated to supporting business innovation and AI advancement in the state. LA.IO is developing the Louisiana Institute for Artificial Intelligence, a nonprofit organization designed to serve as Louisiana’s statewide AI anchor.

The institute is charged with leading applied research and development, commercialization, workforce development, and policy development regarding artificial intelligence. This governance structure positions AI strategy at the economic development level, integrating it with broader state innovation and workforce initiatives.

Additionally, Governor Jeff Landry’s executive order in October established mandatory requirements for state government AI use, requiring that any agency deployment of AI be “responsible, ethical, beneficial and trustworthy” and approved by the Chief Information Officer to ensure security and reliability.

Scoring note: Dimension 10 (named government body with AI governance mandate) scores 1 for the Louisiana Institute for Artificial Intelligence and LA.IO division, which have explicit mandates for AI governance, research, and workforce development.
