The Government of Canada, through the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor), announced $2,815,999 in February 2026 for four projects supporting digital literacy and AI adoption across Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon. For the Northwest Territories, the Inuvik Tech Society received funding for a two-year Digital Literacy, Online Safety, and AI Training Program in the Gwich’in Settlement Region and Inuvialuit Settlement Region, developing tailored curriculum, an online learning platform, a mobile training lab, and delivering workshops to seven communities. Additionally, Prosper NWT received up to $2.3 million for an AI-driven entrepreneurship and business support centre. This represents the most substantial federal AI literacy investment in the territories to date, providing publicly funded AI literacy resources to remote northern communities.
