The February 2026 CanNor announcement allocated funding for two Nunavut projects: a three-year initiative to develop AI and machine learning tools for community-level economic development plans in Nunavut municipalities, and an AI/ML-powered grant and proposal writing tool enabling Nunavut communities to independently draft funding applications aligned with their cultural context and priorities. These publicly funded AI tools are designed to increase community capacity and reduce dependence on external consultants. While community-focused rather than broad public literacy programmes, they represent the first confirmed government-funded AI tools available to Nunavut communities.
