Asturias 'Ruta Digital' deploys mobile AI-literacy classroom to 71 rural municipalities, reaching 11,000 residents

The Government of Asturias launched “Ruta Digital,” a mobile digital-training programme funded with €2.4 million through an agreement between the Presidency (Demographic Challenge, Equality and Tourism Department) and the Oviedo Chamber of Commerce. A purpose-built mobile classroom (a 10-metre vehicle with 42 m² of usable space and capacity for 10 simultaneous students) travels to 71 rural municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, offering a catalogue of 100 free courses, each lasting 7.5 hours, in digital and hybrid formats. The AI component is explicit: 13 of the 100 courses cover AI topics, including basic AI usage, prompt engineering, practical ChatGPT applications, and AI for brand identity. Courses are available in-person at municipal stops and online at rutadigitalasturias.com for residents registered in the 71 participating municipalities. The programme targets adults, seniors, and schoolchildren, and is entirely free, addressing the digital divide in rural Asturias.
