La Rioja adds first dedicated AI training area to 2026 civil servant training plan

The Gobierno de La Rioja approved its Plan de Formación 2026, which for the first time includes a dedicated AI training area covering responsible and ethical AI use, practical application in work organisation, and AI’s impact on public services. The plan comprises 475 training actions, 10,740 training hours, 13,000 course places, and targets more than 10,000 public employees. It was designed by the Escuela Riojana de Administración Pública (ERAP) with a budget of €532,411. AI training for civil servants is now institutionalised within the regional government’s annual training cycle, though no minimum AI competency standard is defined in law.
