Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) signed a strategic agreement with Google in October 2025 to provide all university students across the country — both public and private institutions — with free access to Gemini Pro AI tools for one year. The package includes Gemini 2.5 Pro, Veo 3 (video generation), NotebookLM, and 2 TB of cloud storage, integrated into Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet). The subscription would ordinarily cost $240 per student annually. The partnership is government-arranged and covers the entire university student population, making high-capability AI tools freely accessible as a national public initiative. This represents the first large-scale publicly arranged AI resource provision in Iraq.
