In December 2025, Melilla advanced the creation of the Cátedra de Inteligencia Artificial, Sociedad Digital e Innovación Territorial at its university campus. The cátedra is designed as an academic and scientific complement to the new Grado en Inteligencia Artificial y Ciencia de Datos, which is set to begin at the Melilla campus from the 2026-27 academic year. The AI and digital society chair includes a public-facing mandate for AI literacy activities, training sessions, and outreach to local citizens and businesses, providing a government-supported access point for AI literacy resources beyond formal students.
